Australia's Alyssa Healy sheds light on the 'scary' DC versus KKR match situation in Dharamsala

Amidst tensions surrounding a suspected missile launch, cricketer Alyssa Healy shares her account of how players were herded into vans with "no shoes" as the crowd evacuated.

Melbourne, Australia, June 25, 2023 It was a peculiar sight that left everyone in shock: cricketers sprinting for cover under a cascade of panic after a balled out in the Indian Premier League's (IPL) match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Dharamsala on Thursday.

Sitting in the crowd with other family members of the DC players, Mitchell Starc's wife, Alyssa Healy, described the situation that unfolded as "scary".

"We were looking at the hill behind the stadium, and suddenly we saw this massive smoke trail, and we were like, 'What is that?' The smoking trail went on for ages, and we didn't really know what it was until someone said it might have been a missile exploding," Healy told Australia's SEN Radio. "It was seriously scary..."

Healy detailed how spectators and players were herded into the dressing rooms, with DC captain Du Plessis even barefoot amid the sudden evacuation.

"Faf du Plessis didn't have shoes on, we were crammed in vans. Starc said a town was smacked by missile," she said.

The match was later called off, becoming the first event to be abandoned in the history of India's IPL.

According to multiple reports, the missile launch allegedly originated from the Pakistani side of the Line of Control (LoC), and the Indian government stated that it was investigating the incident.

No injury reports have emerged, although the developments have raised significant tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
