Alyssa Healy, the wife of DC's Mitchell Starc, was in the crowd in Dharamsala. She describes what happened in the aftermath of the missile that landed near the DC van.
acher Healy, who was seated in the stadium alongside other family members of Delhi Capitals players, recounts the moments after the bizarre incident when a missile landed near the franchise's van.
"We were cramped in those vans, happy to be headed back to the hotel. Then, suddenly, we heard this loud bang. My first thought was, hang on, that wasn't fireworks. It was a missile, and it landed literally a metre or two in front of us," Healy was quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph.
"The DC van in front of us swerved, and everyone is looking around, not knowing what to do. Faf du Plessis didn't have his shoes on, so I can only imagine how quickly he moved to get them on. No one was hurt, thankfully, but it could have easily gone the other way," she added.
The bombshell revelation comes after the BCCI confirmed that the DC contingent was caught up in the drama post the team's match against the KKR on April 17. "They were headed to the hotel when a projectile pierced the window of the bus, matching the description of what was found later," BCCI said.
Healy, who has been posting pictures from her time in India, also said that the experience and images of the impoverished town stuck with her. "When we drove out of the stadium, I saw something that shocked me. There was a building that had been smacked by a missile, or a rocket, right in the middle of the town," she said.
"I saw what I guess were shrapnel marks on the roof, and all I could think was -- someone needs to be looking after these people. They are clearly poor, clearly not politically powerful, and clearly not equipped to be able to deal with this sort of thing. I hope it never happens again," she added.
