Former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson adds to his credentials with new role for upcoming Pakistan series.
Former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson has been appointed as Pakistan's new head coach for one-day international and Twenty20 cricket, the country's cricket board (PCB) said on Saturday.
Hesson will take charge for the upcoming tours of Australia and New Zealand, focusing on helping Pakistan prepare for the T20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia in October and November.
"We are delighted to have someone of Hesson's stature and experience joining the Pakistan team," said Zakir Khan, the PCB's director of international cricket.
"He is a proven winner and has rich knowledge and experience of cricket in these regions. His working relationship with the current management team in the past will certainly help in seamless transition and integration."
Hesson, who will be joined by fellow New Zealander Shane Jurgensen as his assistant, has experience coaching internationally, having led New Zealand to the 2015 World Cup final and also served as the head coach of the Black Caps in all formats.
He also has experience working with Pakistan players, having been involved in the Caribbean Premier League and the Dubai-based International League.
"I am excited to start my new role with the Pakistan team," said Hesson. "I have always maintained that the talent and passion for cricket in Pakistan is unmatched and I look forward to working closely with the players and the management."
The PCB said it will soon announce the appointment of a new batting coach after Grant Flower stepped down from the role earlier this month.
