In an effort to address the criminal activity of forest land encroachment in Andhra Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has ordered the registering of criminal cases against officials who have failed to address the problem. This controversial issue entails unauthorized possession and tampering of with forest land, a problem that has been persistent in the region for far too long.
The state's Deputy Chief Minister visited the district of Chittoor on Monday, where he ordered actions against officials who failed to address forest land encroachments in the district. Kalyan criticized local authorities for their inaction, stating that such negligence and indulgence in such illegal activities is unacceptable and that stricter measures should have been taken much sooner.
"Strict action should have been taken against officials who have shown laxity in addressing the issue of forest land encroachment," he said.
In a subsequent statement, the Deputy Chief Minister's office said that several joint ventures between the state and central governments to promote infrastructure development and industrial development had inadvertently led to conflicts over land use and titles, further exacerbating the existing problem.
The statement went on to promise increased vigilance and monitoring of such partnerships in the future, to ensure that crimes against forestry and environmental protection laws are punished to the fullest extent of the law.
