Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif attempted to copycat Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to a military airbase but ended up with a hilarious social media backlash.
The day after Modi's visit to the Adampur airbase in Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif decided to take a tour of a military site as well as the same airbase. Modi's visit, however, consisted of visiting an operational helicopter squadron, witnessing a demo of Army's Advance Light Helicopters in action, and reviewing a static display of diverse equipment, while Sharif only looked around vacant areas and posed for pictures.
Social media users were quick to point out the absurdity of the copycat move and laughed it off, wondering if Sharif had actually done anything of note during his visit.
The question remains: why the need to copy such a visit? At a time when the nation is outraged over the violent rape and killing of a young girl in Uttar Pradesh, and as increasing numbers of civilians are being killed by the armed forces across the valley, it might be better for Shehbaz Sharif to spend his time addressing these issues rather than mimicry.
Perhaps the next election cycle is already on his mind.
