Amid rising cases of avian influenza or bird flu in Uttar Pradesh, all zoos have been shut as per the directives issued during a high-level meeting chaired by the state's Chief Minister. Yogi Adityanath has ordered a probe into the outbreak and formed a five-member panel to look into the crisis.

The recent outbreak of the H5N1 strain of avian influenza has seen the death of over 1000 ducks in the past week alone in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

Authorities across the state have been instructed to ensure the safety of birds and ensure the disease does not spread further. Moreover, surveillance has been increased in localities adjoining the Yamuna River, alongside regular monitoring of bird flu positive coops in the state.

According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), bird flu has been detected in 500,000 birds in India, including in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. The virus has led to the death of at least 107 people in India since 2006.

In light of these recent developments, authorities are taking the necessary measures to control the spread of avian influenza in the state, hoping to prevent further outbreaks and ensure the well-being of both humans and animals.
