Yangon, June 8: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's right-hand man, Amit Shah, has hailed the largest-ever operation against Maoists, claiming victory over the "terrorists", saying the once-terror-ridden Red Mountain now proudly waves the Indian Tricolour.

In a statement posted on the BJP's official Facebook page, Shah said the Maoist terrorists used to control the Red Mountain, also known as the Ramgarh hill, but were now a "fading footprint".

The mountain, located in the centre of the country, was once synonymous with terror and was considered a strong hold of the Maoists, but the security forces have successfully brought it under control.

"This is the result of meticulous planning and precise implementation by the government under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Shah was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

He said the BJP government would continue to fight such forces threatening the country's unity, peace, and integrity. "The Tricolour will keep on fluttering high at every hill and corner of the country," he added.

The operation was launched in the first week of June, with the objective to eliminate Maoists and establish the government's authority in a region where the Maoists took control in the late 1990s and implemented their brand of communism.

The operation involved more than 1,000 police officers, with a large contingent of female officers involved, who marched on the Maoists' camps, overrunning their defences and forcing them to flee.

This comes months after Modi's controversial decision to revoke Article 370, which ultimately led to the separation of Kashmir from the rest of India.

The BJP has argued that the move was necessary to restore stability and bring development to the region.

The party has also pointed to the operation against Maoists as evidence that the government is committed to securing the entire country and bringing it under the mainstream.

Only time will tell how this decision will impact the upcoming elections and whether or not it will give the BJP the upper hand.
