Unidentified terrorists were killed in an encounter with Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama, officials said on Monday, as the disputed region grapples with a resurgence of militancy.

Top security officials in Jammu and Kashmir said that the militants were engaged in an encounter with Indian troops in the Padgampora area of Pulwama district, not far from where the February 14, 2019, attack took place, which killed at least 40 Indian paramilitary forces and was the deadliest attack in the region in three decades.

The officials said that the exchange of gunfire began late Sunday night and continued into the early morning hours of Monday.
