Spotify can create custom music stations based on user requests, the streaming service has announced. The new feature, powered by artificial intelligence, responds to commands such as "create a workout playlist", "help me focus", and "play some party music". The platform's algorithm will then analyze the request and create a station of similar tracks.
The company claims the AI-driven feature is a first for a major music streaming platform and offers users a new way to access music based on their mood, activity, or preferences. It builds on the company's existing playlist feature, Discover Weekly, which uses AI to offer a personalized playlist to each user every week.
"With over 70 million tracks on Spotify, it can be difficult to find the right music for any moment. That's why we're introducing a new way to discover and listen to music and podcasts you'll love based on a command or phrase, like a song name, mood, genre, or activity," said Charlie Hellman, senior product manager, in a blog post. The new feature is available now on Android and iOS apps, with Spotify promising more updates and improvements in the future.
