Dust storm in the Indian capital turned the city's skies murky and triggered a dip in air quality, with the weather office advising people to stay indoors.

The weather office confirmed that the capital city registered 29 mm of rainfall within an hour, which is the average rainfall the city usually receives in the month of June.

The storm was also accompanied by lightning and thunder, which led to power outages in several areas. The weather office warned that similar storms are expected in the coming days as well.

According to participants in the half marathon held on June 18, the dust made it difficult for them to breathe, and their eyes were burning due to the dust and smoke in the air. Several runners were seen wrapping their faces with their T-shirts in an attempt to breathe filtered air.

The poor air quality post the dust storm only makes it worse for the residents of New Delhi, already battling toxic air due to pollution. The Meteorological Department has advised residents to stay indoors and warned that similar storms may be expected in the coming days as well.
