A UK man was sentenced to 10 years in prison last week, more than a decade after he raped a minor.

In 2012, the man was convicted of rape and sexual assault of a girl aged 13, and possession of sexually explicit photographs of children, at Nottingham Crown Court. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison, and was released in 2015 with a string of strict conditions, which included an indefinite restraining order against the victim and her family, a curfew, and substance abuse treatment.

The man, aged 54, was arrested again in February of this year for violating these conditions of his release, and was brought back to court for review last week. This led to a dramatic rethink of his sentence and its conditions, ultimately resulting in a further 5 years imprisonment being added to his sentence, with an additional 5 years on license upon his eventual release.

The judge, Justice Stuart-Smith, said in court that the man was "hazardous and harmful" and that "none of us can know the devastating long-term consequences for the victim in this case."

The man has requested that the media not disclose his name or whereabouts, indicating he will appeal the decision.

Given the nature of his crimes, many are shocked that he was ever released, let alone given the opportunity to rape again.
