In Karnataka's Bagalkot district, a young man allegedly assaulted and stabbed his teacher after an argument over whether the former's cricket ball had landed at the teacher's house. The incident, which was caught on camera, shows the man, identified as Basavaraj Haropant, arriving at Katte's house on Tuesday afternoon, allegedly to discuss the cricket ball. According to Haropant's family, the ball had landed in their compound, damaging their poultry.

The heated discussion turned violent when Haropant, who is reportedly 21 years old and stands 6 feet tall, attacked Katte, who was 62. The teacher's daughter, who was present at the house, ran to fetch her father's revolver for protection. Katte's family alleges that Haropant restrained the daughter, while Katte attempted to grab the gun. Haropant's family, however, alleges that Katte brandished the gun at Haropant, who then seized the weapon and stabbed Katte in self-defense.

The incident has ignited heated debates over whether passion for sports should be encouraged or whether it incites violence. Many have also questioned the overexposure of youth to sports, especially contact sports like cricket, leading to a lack of respect for teachers and elders.
