The legal status of archery-based game Teer in Meghalaya has been a subject of controversy and speculation. However, according to advocacy group, Meghalaya Paach Brotherhood, the game is legal and should be regulated and protected by the government to prevent exploitation of locals by organized criminal groups.

According to Bangladesh Panditer Samity (BPS) president, Somnath Bosui, Teer is rooted in the region's culture and tradition, having been played in the state for over 50 years. Bosui states that the game involves no gambling, and participants simply stake money on the accuracy of their predictions.

Meghalaya Paach Brotherhood is now calling on the government to step in and regulate Teer, in a bid to protect locals and deliver justice to those exploited by illegal betting syndicates.
