Bottoms up! Everton giving away free beer and cider to fans ahead of final Premier League game at beloved stadium
Everton FC is giving away free beer and cider to fans at their final Premier League home game at Goodison Park, breaking a strict top-flight rule in the process.
The league has strict rules regarding alcohol consumption at matches, only allowing it in hospitality areas before and after games, but fans can sip worry-free at the iconic stadium come match day August 2022.
The initiative is a thank you from the club for the fans' unwavering support throughout the 2021/22 Premier League season. It's also a nod to the club's history, as beer has been a big part of Goodison Park since its beginnings in 1892.
"The club wants to reward as many fans as possible with this initiative at our final home game of the season," said Peter Spencer, director of marketing at Everton.
"This feels like the perfect way to say thank you to our fans for their brilliant support this season, and also to celebrate a landmark occasion as we near the end of our time at Goodison Park."
The move is sure to be a hit with the Toffees faithful, who have a reputation for being one of the noisiest and most passionate fan groups in the league.
It's a fitting send-off for the club's beloved but dilapidated 118-year-old home, which is due to be replaced by a new purpose-built, 52,888-capacity stadium at nearby Bramley Moore Dock.
Construction on the new 500m ($600m) stadium is set to begin later this year, with the project expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
So, for one last time at Goodison Park, fans can enjoy a complimentary cold one with their neighbors as they cheer on the Blues. Some things in life are truly free and this meaningful connection with loyal fans resonates deeply.
