Rajasthan government challenges ruling, alleges improper investigation in High Court

Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, and others could not contain their relief as they were acquitted in the blackbuck poaching case by a local court in Rajasthan last week.

However, there is one more hurdle for the stars to overcome as the Rajasthan government has challenged their acquittal in the state's High Court, asserting that the investigation was not conducted properly.

This development has stirred things up again after the local court's ruling triggered immense controversy and backlash from various quarters.

The poaching case went back to the year 1998 when the actors were in Rajasthan shooting for a film.

They were charged with hunting down blackbucks, an endangered species, amid various other allegations.

The local court's decision to acquit them came after all the evidence presented by the prosecution was deemed insufficient to charge the actors.

The Rajasthan government, however, maintains that the investigation conducted by the poaching case's Special Investigation Team (SIT) was not up to the mark and the case merits a retrial.
