BJP's 'Double Standards' Highlighted by Academic's Arrest

The Congress attacked the BJP, accusing them of upholding double standards regarding the arrest of an academic who posted thoughtful criticisms of the government's handling of the Monsoon Session and the violence that followed. The BJP's silence and inaction towards their ministers who demeaned the armed forces set a dangerous precedent.

At a time when the nation was reeling from the violence that marred the Monsoon Session of Parliament, leading to the hospitalization of several MPs, an academic's arrest for a "thoughtful" post against the violence and BJP ministers facing no action for "demeaning" the armed forces has brought to the fore the Narendra Modi government's "double standards", the Congress said on Sunday.

"Professor Hany Babu, an academic, is arrested for a thoughtful post against the despicable violence and misconduct of the BJP ministers and allies. Sadly, the BJP government's double standards are highlighted in the arrest of Professor Babu, while the BJP ministers and MPs face no action for their demeaning behavior toward the armed forces," Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said at a press conference here.

The BJP government's "selective outrage and double standards" were shocking, Khera added.

Khera highlighted the "shocking and disgusting" behavior of BJP MPs, including Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni, who allegedly made demeaning remarks against the armed forces.

"The entire country was shocked and disgusted by the shocking and disgusting behavior of the BJP MPs, including the misconduct of Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni. Unfortunately, the BJP government remains silent on the misconduct of its ministers and MPs, while Professor Hany Babu's arrest and the suspension of Opposition MPs highlight the BJP's selective outrage," Khera emphasized.

The arrest of Professor Hany Babu, an outspoken critic of the BJP government, is a clear attempt to silence democratic dissent, Khera concluded.
