India's head coach Dan Vettori heaped praise on youngsters Abhishek Sharma, KL Rahul and Avesh Khan, along with veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, for their stellar performances against South Africa in the second T20I.
Reflecting on the thrilling match that concluded in India's favour, Vettori pinpointed opener Shikhar Dhawan's crucial knock and Rishabh Pant's proactive captaincy as pivotal moments, but reserved special praise for the spin duo of Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal for choking the South African batters, especially Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller.
Speaking after the game, the former New Zealand captain said: When youre playing on these sorts of pitches, youre looking for players who can read the conditions well, and I thought Abhishek, Klaasen, and Miller were those guys who read the conditions really well".
"Lungi did towards the end, the way he adjusted to the pitch and used his knuckles more, the ball was getting older and he bowled beautifully in the last few overs", he added.
Vettori also highlighted Avesh Khan's breakthrough performance, saying he had been "impressive for a while now" and predicted that the fast bowler was "going to be around for a long time".
Looking forward, the former spinner urged Indian batters to be more aggressive, reminding them that dew would play less of a role in the third T20I in Indore, batting first.
In conclusion, Vettori expressed hope that Rahul Dravid's new era of Indian cricket would embrace the young talent coming through the ranks.
