An FIR has been registered against BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya and Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV, Arnab Goswami for allegedly running false information, Bangalore police said.
This recent development occurs after journalist Arnab Goswami was accused of spreading misinformation regarding the suicide of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and showcasing "fake" headlines on his show. Bangalore Police arrested two people who allegedly worked with Arnab Goswami and were responsible for "manipulating" the headlines.
Goswami's Republic TV is also accused of using derogatory words for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and "minimizing" the importance of the "Pulwama attack."
"This is a very serious issue, as the entire country's security has been compromised by showing such irresponsible behavior," further stated the Congress leader, who filed the complaint against the journalists.
The complainant also accuses BJP IT cell's Amit Malviya of targeting Rajasthan's Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, who is currently in a tussle with the party's senior leadership.
"This complaint is related to the spreading of malicious and false information, which includes a national security issue and the violation of privileges of a deputy chief minister," the complainant adds.
The police are currently investigating the case and will take appropriate action based on the investigation results.
