Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finished their IPL 2025 campaign on a powerful note, handing table-toppers Gujarat Titans (GT) a crushing 83-run defeat at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 25. Despite being out of playoff contention, CSK played for pride and executed a comprehensive performance that exposed GT’s vulnerabilities just before the playoffs.

Opting to bat first, CSK posted a commanding total of 230/5. Dewald Brevis was the standout performer, hammering 57 off just 23 balls, including a fifty in only 19 deliveries, to give Chennai a big finish in the death overs. Devon Conway also made a crucial contribution with a half-century, though he fell to Rashid Khan immediately after reaching the landmark. CSK capitalized on the powerplay and maintained momentum even as GT attempted to slow things down during the middle overs.

In response, Gujarat Titans suffered a top-order collapse right from the start. CSK’s bowlers, especially Anshul Kamboj and Khaleel Ahmed, wrecked havoc during the powerplay. Kamboj dismissed GT skipper Shubman Gill in his first over, followed by Khaleel removing Jos Buttler. Kamboj struck again to take out Sherfane Rutherford, leaving GT struggling at 3 down inside five overs. Although local talents B. Sai Sudharsan and M. Shahrukh Khan tried to rebuild, the damage was already done.

CSK’s aggressive field placements, orchestrated by the ever-sharp M.S. Dhoni, played a crucial role in stifling GT's chase. With their middle-order once again underwhelming, GT now heads into the playoffs with plenty to worry about.
