Zimbabwean cricket captain Sikandar Raza has reportedly filed a racism complaint against a local coach, alleging that he was subjected to "constant abuse" during a domestic match, with the alleged abuser reportedly referring to Raza as "a bit of a coconut."
The incident, which is said to have occurred during a game in Zimbabwe's Takashinga Cup tournament, is believed to have been sparked by a disagreement between Raza and the coach in question over whether the bowler should be allowed to bowl a particular bowler.
According to various reports, the coach, whose name has not been disclosed, allegedly made a derogatory reference to Raza's Pakistani heritage with the "bit of a coconut" remark, implying that he was not truly Zimbabwean.
Raza, who plays domestically for Malcolm Marshall's former club, Queens Sports Club, is expected to demand swift and appropriate action from the Zimbabwe Board as he hopes for a full investigation and resolution into the incident.
The issue is particularly sensitive as Raza, a Pakistani-born cricketer, has been instrumental in Zimbabwe's international successes in recent years and has been praised for his positive influence on the national team's culture.
"We are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the investigation and we hope that it will be dealt with promptly and efficiently," Raza said.
