BJP's '11 Year' Report Card Flagged Rising Hunger, Inequality

As India embarks on a new term of governance, Congress has presented a report card of sorts, highlighting what it believes are lacking scores on key issues like hunger and inequality under the current BJP-led government. The party released a booklet entitled "Ek Aur Baar Jumla Sarkar," which highlights perceived inconsistencies between BJP's pre-election promises and actual progress on key issues.

According to Rajeev Gowda, the publisher of the booklet, BJP has failed spectacularly in combating hunger, alleviating poverty, and ensuring equality under the law for all Indians. Speaking at a press conference on the topic, Gowda stated unequivocally that the current government has driven an unequal, unjust society that disproportionately benefits a wealthy minority.

Gowda highlighted the rise in hunger and food insecurity, particularly since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the subsequent economic fallout. He also decried the government's neglect of key infrastructure, industrialization, and agricultural sectors, instead choosing to focus on divisive, culturally-charged issues.

This report and subsequent media appearances are part of the Congress party's renewed efforts to put the BJP on the defensive ahead of crucial state elections set to take place later this year.
