In the most recent example of rising violence facing Bahujans in Modi's India, Rahul Gandhi has targeted the Prime Minister after a 19-year-old Dalit youth died after he was allegedly shot during an altercation over a ration shop in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh.

"Unfortunately, this government stands for violence, arrogance, and crushing the smallest voices," the Congress MP said on Twitter.

Yesterday, Gandhi, the former Congress president, also targeted the government over the death of a tribal woman who was allegedly gang-raped and killed in Khunti district, Jharkhand.

The 19-year-old Dalit youth, Lakhan Lal Tamang, worked at a ration shop owned by a person of higher caste. Regularly for the last six months, he had been facing taunts and harassment from the shop owner. intimidations from the upper caste owner and his sons, prompting the young man to seek police protection.

On Sunday, during an altercation at the shop, the accused allegedly shot at the youth, who died on the spot. The accused tried to escape but was caught by angry locals and lynched.
