In a significant move to promote job creation and skill development, the Government of Assam has launched the "Skill Assam" initiative under the Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM). The program aims to provide vocational training to the state's youth, focusing on sectors with high employment potential such as healthcare, construction, hospitality, and information technology. With the state witnessing rising unemployment, this scheme is designed to bridge the skill gap by offering relevant training programs tailored to meet the needs of local industries.
The "Skill Assam" initiative has identified key areas where skilled manpower is urgently needed. By collaborating with industry partners, the government seeks to ensure that the training provided is up-to-date and aligned with current market demands. Participants will undergo training at various government-approved centers and receive certification upon completion, improving their chances of securing well-paying jobs.
Additionally, the scheme includes a financial assistance program for underprivileged candidates, ensuring that socio-economic barriers do not prevent access to training. During the official launch, Assam’s Chief Minister highlighted the importance of skill development as a driver of economic growth and emphasized the state’s commitment to empowering its youth. The program is expected to train over 50,000 candidates in the next two years, significantly contributing to the state’s overall employment rate.
