In a bid to empower women and boost economic growth, the Assam government has rolled out a special skill development program aimed at nurturing women entrepreneurs. The program, implemented by the Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM), is designed to provide women with the necessary skills and resources to start and sustain their own businesses. From tailoring and handicrafts to digital marketing and retail management, the initiative covers a wide array of vocational training options to encourage women’s participation in various industries.
The program will be run in collaboration with several NGOs and private enterprises, which will offer mentorship and financial guidance to aspiring women entrepreneurs. The goal is not only to provide training but also to create a supportive ecosystem where women can thrive as business leaders. As part of the initiative, the government will offer subsidies and easy loans to participants, helping them overcome financial constraints and achieve self-reliance.
During the announcement, the state's Minister for Skill Development remarked that empowering women is key to boosting Assam’s economic prospects, as women-led businesses have the potential to create jobs and foster innovation. The program has already garnered positive responses, with hundreds of women registering for the upcoming training sessions. This move is expected to contribute significantly to the government’s broader objective of improving gender equality and reducing unemployment across the state.
