Australia spinner Nathan Lyon has set his sights on going one better than their 2021 ICC World Test Championship triumph, eyeing immortality in the form of a second title.
Lyon and Australia are currently in Bangladesh for a Test series, and the 34-year-old is keen to make their mark on the longest format of the game, believing that a successful run in the World Test Championship would cement their status as one of the greatest teams in Australian history. With the likes of Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, and David Warner at their disposal, Australia is definitely a force to be reckoned with.
"It would be amazing to win the World Test Championship for a second time. That would cement us as a great Australian team, hopefully, writing ourselves into the history books. We are on a journey to become a great Australian team," said Lyon, who has 390 Test wickets to his name.
Australia's only disappointment in the longest format over the past few years has been their Achilles heel in Asia, having lost their last five Tests in Asia, including two in Bangladesh.
Australia last tasted success in Asia back in 2012, against Bangladesh in Fatullah, but Lyon is confident that they can put their recent poor form to bed.
"I think it's just a matter of trying to execute our game plans and trying to make sure that our standards don't drop. It's a difficult place to play your cricket over here. We have just got to make sure we're really consistent," he added.
