It's hardly a surprise that Kieran Tierney is relishing his return to Celtic after the left-back was finally given a chance to leave Arsenal. The former Scotland international never managed to secure a regular spot in the Arsenal lineup, making just 41 appearances for the north London club over three years.
Tierney, a Celtic youth academy product, made 170 appearances for the Scottish side during his first spell ahead of his move to Premier League side Arsenal in 2019. The defender has returned to Celtic on a season-long loan.
"It's probably not been announced too much, but I had that option in January as well ," Tierney told Celtic's website. "I just thought, at that time, that it didn't feel right. I didn't think it was right for me, in terms of where I was standing and where I wanted to go, and I just thought it was better for me to stay and keep fighting and showing my worth at Arsenal.
"I believe that, if I had left then, I would have regretted it and maybe not fulfilled my ambitions and my goals at Arsenal. I think it was just timing, in terms of when I left, and I'm happy it happened this season, and I'm delighted to be back."
At just 22 years old, Tierney has already experienced a storied career with a formidable resume most recently adding an FA Cup and a Community Shield to his collection.
"I've enjoyed it so much in my career so far, and sometimes you have to step back to go forward, which I believe I am doing," he said. "I'm only 22, I'm still young, and I learnt so much in my three-and-a-half years in England that I wanted to bring back here, and I believe I've done that in these last few weeks."
After an unfortunate injury cut his season short last year, Tierney is looking forward to getting back on the pitch and contributing to the team.
"The club has been so good to me since I was a young boy, and then my time in England, it was such a great club for me to develop even more and become a better player and a better person," he said. "I'm delighted to be back here and I'm just happy to be back playing football, really."
It's clear that Tierney's return to Celtic has been long anticipated, both by the player himself and the club's loyal followers. With his impressive track record, Tierney is poised to become a key player for Celtic this season.
