The Telangana High Court on Tuesday granted bail to former Mining Minister G. Janardhan Reddy in a mining scam case, staying his conviction by a CBI court.
The court directed the authorities to release Reddy from jail and cancelled the order of disqualification by the Assembly Speaker. The court also stayed the execution of the sentencing order passed by the CBI court, which had awarded him three years of imprisonment.
Janardhan Reddy, who was implicated in a major mining scam in 2015, was dismissed as a cabinet minister by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. He was arrested and sentenced to jail by a Special Court in 2018.
Reddy's legal counsel hailed the decision as a victory for the justice system and vowed to proceed with the same confidence in the higher court.
"We are confident that the Supreme Court will also uphold the constitutional guarantees extended to our client," the lawyer stated.
The case has been a significant scandal in the state and has been subject to numerous investigations and judicial proceedings over the past several years. With Tuesday's developments, Reddy's legal team will continue their fight, striving to ultimately clear their client's name.
