England Newcomer Praises 'Unbelievable' Virat Kohli For Helping Him Out

The Indian legend had a lasting impression on the young Englishman during their time as teammates in Bengaluru and beyond

Rahul Tewatia's debut IPL season with Rajasthan Royals was a baptism of fire. The experienced Virat Kohli, however, helped the English newcomer tame the flames. Tewatia, who joined Royal Challengers Bangalore after Kohli's decision to step down as captain after the 2021 season, revealed the Indian legend helped him adapt to life in the subcontinent.

The pair share a bromance beyond the boundaries as Kohli took to Instagram to welcome the Englishman to the RCB family with a video message. Tewatia, who came through the RCB development program, was drafted in as a like-for-like replacement for Daniel Christian, who opted out of the 2022 IPL season.

"He's an unbelievable guy. He's a bit shy, to be honest, but he's helped me a lot," Tewatia said of Kohli on the Backspin podcast. "Especially coming from England, it was a bit difficult being alone and then having Virat, who has been world-class, having my back and helping me out throughout the entire time I was in Bangalore."

Tewatia added that the RCB team would sometimes get together for dinners or outings to exotic destinations across India. Kohli would ensure that the team had a mix of nationalities to help them bond better and enjoy each other's company. The move paid dividends as RCB reached the IPL 2022 playoffs before losing to eventual champions Gujarat Titans.
