Tata Electronics, a subsidiary of the Tata Group, has sent hundreds of employees to Taiwan for training at the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). The move is aimed at helping the company build a skilled semiconductor workforce ahead of the operations launch of its fab in Dholera and OSAT in Assam.
The employees, who are being trained in TSMC's semiconductor packaging and testing facilities, as well as its chip fabrication plant, will gain expertise in producing and assembling advanced chipsets.
"This move is aimed at imparting domain expertise and skills training to the team, and it will help us bridge the talent gap when our semiconductor facilities go online," said a spokesperson from Tata Electronics.
The spokesperson added that the investment in training is essential to ensure that the company's domestic semiconductor operations are "world-class" and "competitive".
This move comes as part of Tata's broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the semiconductor industry in India and is also a stepping stone in gearing up for the company's highly anticipated venture with Intel to build a semiconductor plant in India.
The spokesperson further added that "this training initiative over the next few weeks will help develop an ecosystem of suppliers and partners to deliver high-quality semiconductor products at competitive volumes and costs".
