Dawid Malan's sensational form in the Vitality Blast continued as his third consecutive half-century propelled Yorkshire to a crucial nine-run victory over Notts Outlaws at Trent Bridge. This win marks a significant turnaround for Yorkshire, who had previously lost their opening three North Group matches. The hero with the ball for Yorkshire was seamer Jack White, who, on his T20 debut, claimed an impressive 4 for 33.
Malan's explosive 58 runs came off just 29 balls, ably supported by Adam Lyth's brisk 29 from 21 deliveries and Matt Revis's unbeaten 27 from 22. The opening pair dominated the powerplay, putting on 83 runs in just 45 balls. While Liam Patterson-White (2 for 24), Dillon Pennington (2 for 29), and Daniel Sams (2 for 31) managed to stem the flow of runs in the middle overs, restricting Yorkshire to 175 for 8, the target proved just enough.
In their chase, the Notts Outlaws struggled to build significant partnerships despite a half-century from their skipper Joe Clarke (50) and a spirited 31 from Freddie McCann. They lost two quick wickets in the opening over to Jack White, setting a challenging tone. Clarke and McCann did provide some impetus with a 63-run stand, but once McCann fell attempting a reverse-hit, the Outlaws' innings began to unravel.
The crucial blow came when Clarke, having just reached his fifty, holed out to long-off off Dom Bess. White continued to pick up vital wickets, and despite a brief late surge from Daniel Sams with back-to-back sixes, the Outlaws ultimately fell short. Yorkshire's bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, denying Notts the required momentum and securing a well-deserved victory.
