Former England cricket star Kevin Pietersen has urged the South African National Cricket Team to be more aggressive in the World Test Championship 2025 Final against Australia at the Lord's in England. Pietersen believes the Proteas must show more fight and not merely focus on surviving against the reigning champions Australia, according to a tweet posted on June 9, 2023.
South Africa ended day one of the final at Lord's with a tiny score of 49 for 3, with skipper Dean Elgar (17) and Sarel Erwee (10) currently holding the fort. Pietersen, a part of the commentary team for the Match, believes the Proteas batsmen ought to take a page out of their bowler's book and throw some punches of their own. He elaborated in a follow-up tweet, "I want to see fighters from the SA team ... not just 'we'll be happy to compete and maybe we'll be lucky'. There's too much 'we'll see' from our players".
Pietersen ended his passionate outburst with a reassurance that he intends to jump off the sidelines and join the fight himself, "I'll go out there with them if needed!".
The game is currently tied at 0-0, with Australia poised to come out swinging on day two, a move that could prove fatal for the fragile-looking South African batting line-up.
Stay tuned as we witness who gets knocked out or successfully throws the decisive punch on day two at the Lord's.
