The Blackcaps' white-ball team will embark on a hectic eight-game tour of India in January 2026, with the focus on the T20 format. The upcoming series will comprise three ODIs and five T20 Internationals (T20Is) across eight venues over three weeks, according to espncricinfo.com. The last time New Zealand toured India for a white-ball series was in November 2022 when they lost a three-match T20I series 2-1 and then drew a three-match ODI series.
The 2026 tour will be the first time that New Zealand will play an ODI series in India since October 2018 when they lost the five-match series 2-3. The last time both teams met in the ODI format was in July 2022, when India defeated New Zealand 2-1 in a three-match home series.
"The Indian market is really important for us, and playing more cricket there offers huge opportunities for our players and coaches to test themselves in conditions completely different from home," said New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White. The series is part of a new cycle of ICC Future Tours Programs (FTP), which will feature a packed schedule for the men's game between 2023 and 2027.
The schedule for the upcoming series is yet to be released, but with just three weeks to play all eight games, it will be one of the more grueling tours for both teams involved. Given the high volume of games compressed into a short time, there will be little room for recovery or rest, testing the fitness and stamina of each squad.
This new schedule is a part of the ICC's new strategy to host a tournament every year, ensuring that fans can enjoy their favorite teams and players on the international stage more often. With this new development, fans of both the Indian and New Zealand cricket teams can look forward to more meaningful clashes between these two top-ranked squads in the years to come.
