Space travel enlightens humanity and belongs to everyone: Indian astronaut Rakesh Sharma reacts to Axiom-4 mission

It was a landmark day for India as the country witnessed its first private citizen achieve the country's first ever spaceflight. Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is set to embark on a historic journey to the International Space Station on Axiom-4 mission and his achievements have caught the attention of veteran astronaut, Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian to travel to space.

Speaking to the media on the significant day, Sharma expressed his excitement for the journey ahead for Shukla and his fellow astronauts. He stated that space travel is enlightening and changes the perspective of the astronauts, believing that the Earth belongs to everyone and should be taken care of by everyone. He wished the crew of the Axiom-4 mission safe travels and a successful mission.

The significance of this mission is unparalleled, as Axiom-4 mission marks multiple firsts. It is the first mission to be launched by a private company, SpaceX, and the first private mission to visit the International Space Station. Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla will become the first Indian civilian to travel to space, hopefully paving the way for more Indians to follow suit.

Shukla is accompanied by Lisa Marie Nowak, a former NASA astronaut who will be flying with Axiom Space for the second time, as well as Andreas Meltzer and James Pugh, both private astronauts.

This mission is a significant moment for India and a step forward in the country's space exploration ambitions. With Shukla's success, India may well be seeing more astronauts in the future and this day will be remembered as the day it all started, with Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla setting the bar high for the future astronauts to come.

Achieving such a feat is not easy, and we wish the Axiom-4 mission success and safe travels and hope to see India soar in the vast universe.
