'Want Everyone To Defend': Alonso Warns Vinicius, Mbappe

Last season, it was revealed that Carlo Ancelotti told his players he was unconcerned if Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe pressed or not, urging the striker to focus on goalscoring. This came to fruition in Real Madrid's 3-1 aggregate loss to PSG in the Champions League knockout stages.

Now, former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has expressed his views on the situation. He said, as quoted by Marca, "I don't want to interfere in the internal affairs of Madrid, but I believe that if you have players with these characteristics in offensive positions, you have to make the most of them. Not only the centre forwards, but also the wingers like Vinicius and Rodrygo."

Ramos, who won 22 trophies at the club, including four Champions Leagues, stressed the importance of offensive players being involved in all phases of play. He believes if they are not contributing to the defensive side of the game, "there is something wrong."

The defender has been impressed with what he has seen from the likes of Vinicius and Rodrygo in training. "I hope the coach can make understand that it is important for him to be focused on every single action, not only when they are near the area. I'm sure he can do it if he puts his mind to it. They have to want everyone to defend," Ramos added.

Speaking after Madrid's 3-0 win over Chelsea in the first leg of the semi-final, Carlo Ancelotti agreed with Ramos, saying his team needs everyone to contribute to defending. "We all have to defend. We have very fast players, like Vinicius and Rodrygo, who are very young and need to improve in this aspect," he said.

Ancelotti added, "It's important to help the team when we lose the ball, not just the midfielders or centre-backs. We all have to work together and help each other."

Real Madrid faces an uphill task in the second leg, needing to overturn a 3-1 deficit at home to Chelsea. The Spanish giants will need all their players to put in a defensive shift to prevent Chelsea from scoring an away goal.
