Mark Wood Eyes Ashes Return, Hopes To Partner With Jofra Archer

Fast bowler Mark Wood is eager to play alongside Jofra Archer and believes the duo could pose a formidable partnership for the 2023 Ashes tour of England. Wood, who is recovering from a knee injury, expressed hope that both players can prove their fitness as that would give their side a "great chance" in the series.

Wood's remarks come after Archer recently returned to red-ball cricket, confirming his place in the five-match series against Australia. This comes after the fast bowler was not picked in the Test squad for the West Indies tour, with concerns emerging over his fitness.

"It would be great to have a partnership with Jofra, hopefully, if we both stay fit and get picked," Wood said. "It gives a great chance for the team, especially with a bit of variety and extra pace."

Wood is currently recovering from a knee injury, and he admitted that his main focus is to make it to the England side and ensure his form and fitness are up to scratch.

"I need to make sure I am in the team first and show that I am still good enough to be in the team," he said.

"That drives you on to make sure you are hitting your markers, hitting your paces, and making sure you are in the best physical shape possible."

Only time will tell whether both fast bowlers recover in time and gain selection for the highly anticipated Ashes series, with selection and team announcements expected to ramp up in the coming weeks.
