The state of Gujarat, India has won the right to host the 2029 World Police and Fire Games (WPFG), making it the first time the event will be held in the country. The announcement was made on October 21st, 2022 by the nonprofit organization International Police Sport Union (UPSI), which runs the event. This multi-sport event represents the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympics. The games will be hosted in the state's capital city of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Ekta Nagar.
The WPFG is held every year and features competitors from different law enforcement and fire services organizations. The games include a variety of sports such as basketball, cricket, and soccer, as well as strength and endurance events like deadlift and fire carrying.
This is a big win for Gujarat, which has previously hosted other international events such as the 8th Asian Games in 1982, 2003 Afro-Asian Games, and the 2016 Asian Beach Games.
The state's Tourism Minister, Purnesh Modi, expressed his excitement for the event and extended a warm welcome to all participants in a statement released by the UPSI.
This is a great opportunity for the state to showcase its sporting excellence and hospitality. With the event still seven years away, there is much preparation to be done, and the state government has vowed to make the event a memorable one.
