New Zealand will be led by Mitchell Santner in their upcoming T20I tri-series in Zimbabwe, with Tom Latham named as his deputy.

The surprise decision was announced by New Zealand Cricket on July 6, 2022, with the CEO of NZC, David White, stating: "The decision to replace Williamson with Santner for this series is a strategic one, designed to give us the best possible tactical options and flexibility for the series." The series, which commences on July 14 at Harare Sports Club, will see New Zealand compete with Australia and Zimbabwe for triangular series title.
