Petrol, Diesel Fresh Prices Announced: Check Rates In Your City On June 27

New Delhi, June 27: On Wednesday (June 27), the prices of petrol and diesel were revised once again across the country. In the national capital, Delhi, one litre of petrol now costs Rs 96.41 while diesel is priced at Rs 89.53 per litre.

This marks the seventh increase in the last 45 days. Petrol and diesel prices are revised daily at 6 am. They are dependent on the average price of benchmark fuel in the international market and foreign exchange rates.

The fresh rates of petrol and diesel were announced after the central government increased the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre each earlier this month. Meanwhile, several states, including Rajasthan, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, have cut local sales tax or VAT on petrol and diesel.

This has led to a reduction in the price of petrol by Rs 2.5 per litre in Maharashtra and Rs 2 per litre in Andhra Pradesh. Similar reductions have also been made in Telangana and Rajasthan.

Delhi is the only state that has not changed the VAT on fuel despite the surge in the international price of crude oil. Earlier this month, the central government announced a number of measures to help consumers deal with the rising price of petrol and diesel.

This includes cutting the excise duty by Rs 1 per litre and asking state-owned fuel retailers to bear a Re 1 per litre subsidy. Meanwhile, the government has also directed oil marketing companies to ensure there is no fuel scarcity and to make sure that the smooth supply of petrol and diesel is maintained throughout the country.

The government is hoping that the measures announced will help reduce the burden on consumers.

However, with the monsoon session of Parliament beginning tomorrow (June 28), the opposition is likely to grill the government on the rising prices of petrol and diesel and the recent surge in cooking oil prices.

This rise is blamed on the government's controversial farm laws and the botched export policy.

Meanwhile, the government is expected to announce the results of the three-day auction of 41 oil and gas fields today (June 27). The auction, which began on June 24, is expected to help the government boost revenue by up to Rs 30,000 crore over the next four years.

This will be achieved through commitment gained from bidders to explore and produce more oil and gas from these fields compared to the current production. This will also help in reducing the country's dependence on imports for energy needs.

Despite the increase in excise duty on petrol and diesel, the government is still facing criticism for not doing enough to help consumers deal with the rising prices. With the opposition gearing up to attack the government on this issue, it will be interesting to see how the government plans to deal with this rising problem.
