Job losses in Jhajjar regretful but necessary for company's future, says CEO Panasonic has exited the refrigerator and washing machine market in India. The move, which led to job losses at the company's Jhajjar plant, is aimed at focusing on home automation and energy solutions.
The Japanese giant's decision is a regrettable but necessary step towards adapting to the changing business environment in India, according to Panasonic Corporation Chairman and CEO Yuki Kusumi. "The shift is aimed at focusing on 'solutions' for homes, enterprises, and industries through technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics, and energy-efficient solutions," Kusumi said.
The company will concentrate on smart home appliances, indoor air quality, residential energy solutions, and automation systems. It will also continue to leverage its manufacturing expertise in refrigerators and washing machines for developing new, innovative products in these categories for global markets.
The move is part of Panasonic's larger goal to shift its business strategy in India to focus on specific segments and consolidate its position as a leading provider of smart and sustainable solutions.
"The company is strengthening its position as a provider of smart and sustainable solutions by focusing on technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics, and energy-efficient solutions," said Sandeep Sehgal, Business Head, Panasonic India. "Panasonic will continue to focus on delivering premium, state-of-the-art technology to its customers."
