Microsoft's Data Center Expansion in Telangana to Boost State's Cloud and Data Security Leadership by 2025

Telangana’s IT and Industries Minister, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, has called for the completion of Microsoft’s data center expansion in the state by next year. In a recent review meeting held at the Secretariat, the Minister urged Microsoft officials to expedite the ongoing work to position Hyderabad as a leader in cutting-edge data security and cloud solutions in India.

Microsoft has made significant strides in expanding its data center footprint in Telangana. The tech giant has acquired 115 acres of land across Mekaguda (22 acres), Shad Nagar (41 acres), and Chandan Valley (52 acres) in the Rangareddy district to develop state-of-the-art data centers. During the meeting, Microsoft officials informed the Minister that approximately 70% of the data center construction has been completed.

However, challenges remain, particularly concerning local land issues. Microsoft representatives brought to the Minister’s attention a conflict with the local panchayat regarding the 22-acre Mekaguda site. To resolve this, Minister Sridhar Babu instructed the Ranga Reddy District Collector, K. Shashanka, to resolve the issue by the end of the day. Additionally, the Minister emphasized the need to fast-track infrastructure projects related to the expansion, such as enhancing the capacity of electricity substations and constructing floodwater canals.

Minister Sridhar Babu stressed that completing the expansion by 2025 is crucial for Telangana’s vision of becoming a national leader in cloud solutions and data security. He assured Microsoft that the state government would appoint an official to monitor the remaining work and ensure that land conversion and infrastructure projects are completed on time.

Furthermore, Sridhar Babu encouraged Microsoft to expand its reach beyond urban hubs and extend its digital initiatives to rural areas. Microsoft’s Head of Asia Operations, Ian Callan, and key officials like Uttam Gupta and Srichandana, participated in the meeting, reaffirming the company's commitment to Telangana’s IT ecosystem. The expansion is expected to create new jobs, boost the digital economy, and solidify Telangana’s place on the global IT map.
