OpenAI CEO Altman warns of AI dependency

According to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, our excessive reliance on AI may result in deceptive reality.

Altman's warning comes at an important time when AI technologies like ChatGPT are being increasingly used to automate jobs like writing, programming, and customer service. Despite being a significant positive disruptor in many areas of society, Altman believes the world is becoming over-dependent on AI, which could lead to harmful misunderstandings.

One of AI's core issues is its inability to understand the context of situations, something that humans take for granted. Altman stated that AI systems currently lack the context about the world to be able to make perfect copies.

He gave the example of AI-generated paintings, saying the copies are so good that people think they are real, but when put side-by-side with real paintings, people prefer the original pieces. This is because AI lacks the underlying understanding and the appreciation of art.

To solve this issue, Altman emphasizes the importance of human collaboration with AI technologies to avoid the potential for AI to present an unrealistic view of the world.

Ultimately, society must adopt a healthy relationship with these technologies, leveraging them to enhance human intelligence rather than replace it. As Altman stated, we have to be careful not to rely too much on these tools thinking they're right when often they're wrong.
