WTA Bad Homburg Open: Iga Swiatek Into Final After Win Over Jasmine Paolini

The 2020 French Open champion and top seed Iga Swiatek sailed into the final of the WTA Bad Homburg Open with a straight-sets victory over Italian Jasmine Paolini.

In a match that lasted just over an hour, Swiatek coasted to a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over her Italian opponent to punch her ticket to the final. The Polish player won 87% of her first-serve points and broke Paolini five times.

"I'm happy that I could finish this match quite quickly, and I'm happy that I'm through to the final," Swiatek said after the match.

This was the first career meeting between the two players. Paolini, who is ranked 119th in the world, had reached the semifinals after knocking out two seeded players, Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Tamara Korpatsch.

In the final, Swiatek will face the eighth-seeded Russian Daria Kasatkina, who defeated home favorite and third seed Angelique Kerber 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the other semifinal.

The match will be a replay of the final at the Mutua Madrid Open earlier this month, where Kasatkina defeated Swiatek 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-1 to win her first WTA 1000 title.

"I guess I'm going to have some coffee and a good rest because it's not going to be an easy final," Swiatek added. "I'm going to try my best, and I hope it's going to be a great final."
