South Korean smartphone maker Samsung is poised to beat its primary competitor Apple with an upcoming feature in its Galaxy S26 series scheduled to be released in 2024. While Samsung traditionally announces its Galaxy series upgrades at the annual Mobile World Congress, a recent leak suggests it may unveil the next lineup earlier, with rumors pointing to a Q3 2023 release. What has smartphone enthusiasts excited is that Samsung may equip the Galaxy S26 series with up to 16GB RAM, a significant upgrade from the Galaxy S25 series which tops out at 12GB. This RAM capacity increase would allow Samsung to improve performance and compete better with Android rivals like Vivo and Xiaomi, whose flagship models already offer higher RAM. It would also position Samsung to compete with Apple's iPhone, which typically includes more RAM than Samsung's flagship devices but hasn't increased its RAM capacity since the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The upgrade to 16GB RAM across all models could also greatly enhance Samsung's AI tools and machine learning capabilities. This is a growing area of focus for smartphone manufacturers, and one that Samsung has already invested heavily in with the launch of its NPU (Neural Processing Unit) on the Galaxy S22 series.
The Galaxy S26 series will likely be a radical redesign from Samsung with many exciting features and upgrades. However, it's important to remain cautiously optimistic until Samsung officially announces these specifications, or until we get closer to the rumored release date.
