Field investigation on card for Parliamentary committee

The Parliamentary Committee has decided to commence its field investigation at the Pahalgam terror attack site to gather details about the terrorist attack that took place thereon. This comes after the members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs arrived in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday to assess the ground situation in the Union Territory amid heightened military tensions with Pakistan.

A parliamentary official told ANI that the committee would interact with police and paramilitary forces to gather information about the terror attack in which five soldiers were killed after terrorists wore military fatigues to carry out the attack.

The official further added, "The committee will visit the spot to ascertain the facts regarding the terror attack."

The panel, which is headed by Rajya Sabha MP Anand Sharma, includes MPs from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

This comes after the committee concluded its two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir earlier this month. The panel had reviewed the security situation along the international border and the Line of Control (LoC) with special focus on drug trafficking and infiltration.

The terrorist attack in Pahalgam, however, is seen as the worst of its kind in several years and is likely to figure prominently in the committee's agenda.
