Bayen Munich's frontline shone as they defeated Brazilian side Flamengo 4-2 in the Club World Cup to progress into the last 8, thanks to a brace from Harry Kane and a goal each from Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane. The European champions will face PSG in the QF.
The Club World Cup, which is held every year, invites the champions of all continents alongside the hosts' league winners to compete for the crown. After a dramatic start to the game, with both teams threatening to score, it was Bayern Munich who struck first. An absolute bolt from Kingsley Coman, who received the ball on the edge of the box after a clever lay-off from Kane, rocketed the ball into the top left corner.
The Europeans weren't ahead for long, though, as Flamengo equalized just 6 minutes later after some sloppy keeping from Manuel Neuer. Bayern Munich went into the break level after Flamengo's talented midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta finished past Neuer into the roof of the net just before the half-hour mark.
But the German champions responded immediately after the restart. A quick interchange of passes between Sane, Joshua Kimmich, and finally, Kane, ended with the ball in the back of the net to reinflate Bayern's advantage.
Kane wasn't done there, though. The English striker latched onto a loose ball inside the box after a mistake from Flamengo's defending and made no mistake to complete his double.
There was still time for one more goal, and it was Leroy Sane who got it to make the scoreline more reflective of Bayern's dominance.
The Bundesliga champions were relatively comfortable for the remainder of the match and cling on to progress to the quarter-finals, where they'll face Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
