Vietnamese Airlines Flights Were Delayed After One Plane's Wing Sliced the Tail Off Another

Flight delays and cancellations loomed over Hanoi Airport after an accidental collision between two planes, sparking concerns about safety during the pandemic.

In a bizarre incident, the tail of a parked plane was sliced off by the wing of another aircraft that was being towed, reportedly injuring a ground engineer who was standing on the tail at the time.

The Airbus A321, which was preparing to depart for Dien Bien, was struck on the tail by the moving Boeing Dreamliner aircraft around noon local time on Tuesday. The Boeing was scheduled to fly to Incheon, Korea.

Planes flying into and out of Hanoi often use taxiways and runways built for military aircraft during times of conflict, when there is greater room between commercial planes to avoid collisions.

The accident served as a reminder of how important it is to keep a safe distance between aircraft during taxiing, especially with the increased volume of flights and the reduced visibility provided by masks. The accident is under investigation.
