Tourism Minister spearheads environmental initiative: Fish stocking in Salem

Tamil Nadu's Tourism Minister, Mr. P. Balakrishna Reddy, launched a unique environmental initiative in Salem yesterday, with the goal of restoring fish populations and promoting biodiversity in the region's water bodies.

The Minister released a sizeable number of fingerlings young fish that have reached a stage in their development where they can feed independently into a major lake in Salem, with the intention of boosting fish populations that have been dwindling in recent years. This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the ecosystem and fisheries industry in the region.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Balakrishna Reddy stated: "Through the process of fish stocking, we are not only aiming to restore fish populations but also striving to ensure a balanced ecosystem in our water bodies. This initiative aligns with the national and state priorities of sustainable development and environmental conservation."

He further emphasized the importance of public participation in this initiative, urging locals to protect and conserve the area's aquatic resources, acknowledging that these efforts will help sustain the region's ecological balance and improve the fisheries industry in the long run.

This fish stocking drive is planned to be expanded to other water bodies across the state, with the goal of restoring biodiversity and fostering sustainable development in the region.

This initiative is over and above the recent initiatives started by the Minister in the tourism sector, reflecting the broader government commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation in the state.
