Hawk's Legendary Skateboard Expected to Fetch Half Million Dollars

Ever wanted to own a piece of history? Well, now's your chance assuming you've got deep pockets.

It's been estimated that professional skateboarder Tony Hawk's "Falcon 2" board will sell for between $500,000 and $700,000 when it goes up for auction later this month. Why so expensive? Well, Hawk managed to achieve the first-ever 900 skateboarding trick using this very board back in 1999. For those who don't speak skateboard, that involves flipping the board and your body a full two full rotations (that's 900 degrees, clever name much?) while in the air before landing cleanly.

While the auctioneer, Heritage Auctions, is tight-lipped about the exact estimates, they do note that the board will be part of their Comics & Comic Art Auction event, which is expected to feature items from Hawk and other pro skaters, including Bob Burnquist and Neal Hendrix.

For Hawk, though, it's not just a piece of wood. In an Instagram post announcing the auction, he explained that this was the actual board he used back in 1999 at the X Games in San Francisco. miraculously, it's also the only intact 900 prototype in existence, featuring inverted dimensions and unique dimensions (7.25 inches x 28 inches) that evolved from the traditional 7.5 inches x 31.5 inches deck that he normally rode.

So, if you have (quite) a bit of cash burning a hole in your pocket and want a cool conversation piece to show off to your buddies, this could be just the ticket. I'm off to practice my ollies...
