Harry Brook, the promising young batter hopes to return to the Indian Premier League after a two-year ban. The England international violated a BCCI directive by signing up with his national team for a Test match instead of joining his IPL franchise, Delhi Capitals. Brook, who is currently with the England Test squad, spoke about his difficult decision and his desire to play in the world's most lucrative T20 tournament.
"It was incredibly difficult," Brook said. "I'd wanted to play cricket for England since I was a little kid. And I'd worked so hard to get here, and to achieve one of my life's goals. And then, when I got the opportunity, I felt I couldn't let Eddie and the selectors down by saying no because playing for England is everything to me."
The 23-year-old's international career is on the rise, and he has already scored a fifty in the ongoing series against Pakistan. He credits his time away from the IPL for his improved focus and attitude towards the game.
"I wouldn't say I'd have been ready before this, and I needed that extra fire and motivation to improve myself as much as I could to give myself the best chance of playing for England," he said.
Despite his international success, Brook has not forgotten about the IPL and hopes to return to the league soon. "I would love to go back and play in the IPL at some point, but I wasn't sure if that opportunity would come," he said.
"Now, being here (England), and seeing how much playing for England means, I feel very grateful that I've had this opportunity to fully focus on playing for England, and hopefully, that will continue for a long time," he added.
The promising batter certainly seems to have a bright future, both in the IPL and for England.
