Another Techie Takes Sudden Exit, This Time Due To Dowry Harassment

Yet another young techie has suddenly departed, this time allegedly due to dowry harassment. Devika, a 25-year-old software firm employee, died by suicide at her residence in Telangana. Her mother, Ramalakshmi, filed a police complaint accusing her son-in-law Sharath Chandra of harassing her daughter for additional dowry. Chandra allegedly subjected Devika to both physical and mental harassment. A case has been registered against Chandra, and the Raidurgam police have launched an investigation into Devika's death. This unfortunate incident emphasizes the stark realities of gender-based discrimination and the urgent need for heightened awareness and action to end such practices.

Unfortunately, recent times have seen a sudden increase in the number of young people, especially women, who face pressure and stress caused by socio-cultural norms and traditional expectations. From the pressure of succeeding in competitive exams to the inappropriate demands for dowry from in-laws, these situations can lead to profound sadness and, in worst-case scenarios, end in suicide.

The sheer unpredictability of human behavior leads us to believe that we should not judge or jump to conclusions about people's actions. However, there are alarming trends and patterns that we must address as a society. We must strive to ensure that our homes, educational institutions, and workplaces become safe spaces where people can thrive without societal pressures and norms hindering their freedom.
